Bali! This is an unedited, unfiltered photo taken with an iPhone. Even the butterflies posed! It is this breathtaking.
The first place I went in Bali was the bottom tip of the island called Nusa Dua, not too far from where this picture was taken. It was a luxury beach resort where I attended a workshop called Awesomeness Fest. Here I met the most interesting entrepreneurs and world changers (uncapitalized because I hadn't yet devised this term) who delivered through speeches and demonstrations brilliant ways to interact and exist differently in this technologically and spiritually evolving world. Mind-opening is an understatement - soul-opening perhaps? Check it out here if you're interested in learning more: www.awesomenessfest.com.
My roommate was a beauty from Australia, who invited me to travel with her after the festival. I had not made any plans for my month in Bali aside from the first 4 days at Awesomeness Fest, so I said yes! Also, synchronistically the only place I had ever heard of in Bali besides Nusa Dua was a town called Ubud, mentioned to me by a friend from the states who'd moved there and wanted me to visit. Can you imagine my delight when my roommate asked if I wanted to go with her to Ubud?!?! This was only the beginning. Bali was an experiment in and an overwhelming demonstration of synchronicity, trusting the universe, and magic! If I were to describe all of the coincidences and purely magical events that happened to me in those next weeks it would take hundreds of pages. How-To-Trust-In-The-Universe 101? First class: Ubud.
I was experiencing an activation of sorts, an awakening of my senses, an expansion of my awareness, and a major shift in perspective on myself and all of life. Every day I woke up with no plan, and from breakfast onward such flow and synchronicity occurred that I started to think something was up - and it was bigger than me and better than I could have ever imagined. Even when I thought something might not be awesome, like if my friend had to leave me for an unexpected meeting and I didn't know what I would do, I'd then run into someone I'd recently met or meet someone new that would blow my mind and become a friend for life! It happened. Not once, but over and over.
One of my favorite synchronistic moments occurred when it was the day I had to find a new place to stay. My friend had family coming to visit so would need my bedroom. I was tired from a late night and confused on what to do - go to the beach for my last 4 days or stay in Ubud. I decided to pack my things and go to a lunch with some friends to buy time for the decision. I didn't have a scooter then, and the walk was about 2 miles, so I left early. I was in a sleepy-fog, and the sun was very hot, and the mountainous roadway was not all that relaxing of a walk (I was sweating buckets) and for the first time I felt alone in Bali. Not 30 seconds of having this feeling I looked up and the person who had planned the lunch was right in front of me with an empty space on the back of his scooter! I jumped on and by the time we arrived my sweat had blown away. During lunch one of my friends mentioned her home-stay may have extra space and if not I could stay in her bed until I found something. I was pondering this and after a 3 hour meal and walk through rice fields with the beautiful people of our group I decided to stay in Ubud and move to my friend's place. She rode with me in the taxi with my bags and we were catching up on a new friend I'd met, and I told her how I wanted to do an adventure for the upcoming full moon, like climb Bali's highest mountain, Mt. Agung. As we opened the door of the taxi at her place, who was right outside the taxi door but the new friend I had just mentioned!! We dropped our bags on the sidewalk and chatted to him, and not 5 minutes into the conversation he said, "hey, I'm going to climb Mt. Agung for full moon, why don't you come?" I definitely shrieked in elation there on the street!
This is one of hundreds of examples of this kind of miraculous up-to-the-second synchronicity. Another amazing thing is that I began to experience very vivid guided meditations - but guided by other beings. I write this and hope you read it with all kinds of space, because what I mean is that my meditations started becoming what felt to me like giant imagination journeys, yet with all kinds of wisdom that I wouldn't have, couldn't have come up with in my normal awake, or previous meditational, states. I met gods and goddesses, a queen from a city of gold, a fairy, a phoenix who I could fly on, just to name a few. A little shocking, it was so much fun, so I decided to relax and go with my "imagination" to see where it led me. Always it took me only higher and to greater energy states and awarenesses. After each of these meditations it felt like I had met with my true vibrant life-loving self. And always it felt amazing!!!
Also, my roommate for the majority of my stay in Bali was a psychic. I had never in my life seen, much less hung out, with a psychic. I've never been too interested in knowing what's going to happen in my future. But she is different - she tells the journey of your soul and the opportunities that exist for you to create your most desired life. Living with someone like this and having conversations daily over tea and breakfast was like a grad school course in awakening and perspective-shifting. I have recently found quite a few of these conversations recorded on my phone voice recorder!
Perhaps it was living with a psychic roommate, perhaps it was the magic that dwells inherently inside the island jungle, but whatever it was my life is forever changed! I am in tune with energy like never before, I feel a connection to people, nature, art, and everything like never before, and I love being alive more than ever before! I think overall I'm in touch with my true soul for the first time in a very long time, and it feels blissful.
I departed from Bali at the end of that wonderful month of September 2013, but vowed to return as soon as I possibly could to continue my education. That was in February of 2014, a short 4 months later. What happened on this 2-month stay? Check out Why Bali (Part III) coming soon!!
